Founder Seibert Murphy

My objective is to apply over 35 years of progressive development, project management, and business development experience to creating specialty sensors. My early career was in the US Navy where I served as a Naval Aircrewman, and since then I have held technical and management positions at Magnavox Government Electronics (now Ultra), Automation Engineering, Johns Hopkins University APL, and Progeny Systems and others. My technical specialization includes acoustics, underwater sensors, remote systems, and signal analysis and processing. I'm a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), and Acoustical Society of America (ASA). Since 2006 Guide Star Engineering has been successfully performing programs for commercial and government customers.

Education: B.S. in Physics, Purdue University, and a M.S. in Systems Engineering from the Catholic University of America.

Chief Scientist Michael “Mike” Mullen, PhD

Our chief scientist is Dr. Mullen who applies decades of research and applied engineering experience to problems involving modeling and simulation, physics-based analysis, and remote sensor technologies. Dr. Mullen is a subject matter expert and worked in industry for over 35 years. From underwater and high-altitude sensors to satellite technologies he has led and managed numerous SBIR and internal research and development efforts.  He has held senior engineering positions with Magnavox Government Electronics (now Ultra), Progeny Systems, ITT Aerospace & Communications Division, and  cofounder of ECS Technology (now incorporated into MasterSports). As a project manager, he has successfully managed internal Research & Development programs of SBIR Phase I through Phase III magnitude, including principal investigator of several multiyear development programs.

Education: B.S. Physics, University of Nebraska, and Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from Rutgers University, specializing in physical acoustics.

Industrial Engineer/Business Development Manager Neal Baitcher

Neal contributes knowledge from over 35 years of design, manufacturing, test and industrial experience to the company.  This provides a solid basis for us to continually focus on solving real world problems based on clear guidelines. He leads our business development, and specializes in communications systems, audio products, and related production, test, and quality assurance systems for commercial and government clients. Mr. Baitcher has held technical and senior management positions at Fibre Form, Motorola, Industrial Composites Inc., and Material Innovation Technologies. He is the former president of the American Loudspeaker Manufacturers Association (ALMA), a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), has five (5) issued patents, and has managed ISO 9000 facilities and SBIR projects.

Education: B.S. in Design from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Consulting Senior Electrical Engineer Don Smith

Don is a senior electrical engineer and has worked defense, aerospace and communications for over 35 years.  He contributes expertise in systems engineering, hardware design, circuitboard layout, specification and development of military and commercial communications products. He has held positions with Magnavox Electronic Systems Company (now Raytheon), Texas Instruments Semiconductor, and Raytheon – Crosspan Network Access Technologies Division. Mr. Smith was responsible for design and specification for the next generation of software defined radios. He led extensive analysis and simulations projects to make system trade decisions for commercial digital cellular air-ground phone system.

Education: B.S. and M.S. Electrical Engineering degrees from The Ohio State University.
